Mark Gall, James Shemanski, Tyler Alden, Jason Hennessy, Robert Hollmeyer and Richard Jaslowski of the fire department and Moilanen’s family and neighbor Gerald Moilanen, Craig Moilanen and Gerald Daviskeba helped save the life of Kathy Moilanen, who had went into cardiac arrest and collapsed on March 21. DeHuff’s rescuers were one of several lifesaving awards handed out at the meeting. “Drayk DeHuff is alive today because of the prompt emergency care he received on February 4th of this year,” said Fire Chief Joseph Schornak, who presented lifesaving awards to DeHuff’s rescuers. Those workers - Stacy Gross, James Shemanski, Shawn Tretinik and Kirk Vogler of the Commerce Township Fire Department and Community EMS’ Kristin Schnute and Alan Clymer - administered emergency care to DeHuff and transported the baby to Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital in less than three minutes. The fire truck was a gift from the rescue workers who are credited with saving DeHuff’s life. At a Commerce Township Board of Trustees meeting Tuesday, smiling onlookers watched DeHuff drive through township offices in a new toy fire truck, complete with working hose. 4 this year, 1-year-old Drayk DeHuff was stabbed by his mother in Commerce Township.
